In April, Joel Smith, Susan Craig, and Kara Rahimi went to trial in Hennepin County against the Estates at St. Louis Park nursing home. The jury rejected the nursing home’s denial of wrongdoing and returned a verdict of $1,375,001.28 for our client’s past medical expenses, pain, disability, and emotional distress (for a 7-month period of time until our client recovered from his broken back and injuries). Our client, age 86, was not able to attend trial or testify about his pain due to his dementia.

In June, Joel, Susan, and Kara went to trial in Ramsey County against the Estates of Lynnhurst nursing home. The jury rejected the nursing home’s denial of wrongdoing and returned a verdict of $2,047,719.72 past medical expenses, pain, disability, disfigurement, and emotional distress (for a 6-month period of time until our client recovered from her pressure injuries and infection). We did not pursue a claim for future damages due to our client’s prevalent health issues due to multiple sclerosis. Our client was not able to attend trial or testify about her pain and emotional distress due to her compromised physical and cognitive status.
