The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has completed its investigation of neglect concerns at the Afton Care Senior Homes, a Comprehensive Home Care Provider in Afton, Minnesota.
A complaint was filed with the MDH alleging that a client was neglected when the client was not assessed for a change in condition when the client was in pain. In addition, it is alleged that medications were not reordered in a timely manner leaving the client without medications for up to eleven days. In addition, it is alleged there were multiple medication errors and staff are not being trained to administer medications.
The MDH investigated the matter and found that neglect of health care occurred when the client was not administered medications in a timely manner on three separate occasions to assist in alleviating the client’s symptoms of nausea and vomiting, pain and constipation, causing the client unnecessary discomfort. The client was not administered the necessary medication because it was “unavailable” to administer.
The MDH determined that the facility is responsible for neglect of the facility’s resident. [Case no. #HL27465004]
