According to a “Report Card” sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota Department of Human Services, here are some details about the state of nursing homes in Minnesota:

  • There are 371 nursing homes in the state that are certified to participate in the Medical Assistance Program with a bed capacity of 29,452.
  • Medicare or Medicaid pays for approximately 66 percent of all resident days.
  • The average nursing home in Minnesota charges about $177 per day, or about $64,605 per year.
  • 49 percent of beds are in private rooms.

  • 62 percent of nursing facilities earned five stars on the state inspection measure, with no significant problems on their current and prior inspections and on their one-year complaint record.
