MDH Investigates Neglect, Injurious Fall at Madonna Towers

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has completed its investigation of neglect concerns at the Madonna Towers of Rochester in Rochester, Minnesota. A complaint was filed with the Department alleging that the nursing home failed to follow a resident’s care-plan, resulting in an injurious fall. The department investigated the matter and found that the resident’s care plan indicated that the resident was not to be left unattended while out of his bed. However, a caretaker left the resident unattended while in the restroom. The resident fell, and was taken to the hospital after complaining of hip pain. The resident was diagnosed with a pelvic fracture. The MDH determined that the employee caretaker is responsible for the neglect of the facility’s resident. (Case no. H5153016)

This is not the first investigation of Madonna Towers of Rochester. In October 2013, MDH confirmed another case of neglect where a resident was denied treatment for a urinary tract infection. The resident eventually had to be hospitalized. (Case no. H5153015)
