The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has completed its investigation of neglect concerns at the Cedar Crest Estate assisted living facility in Hutchinson, Minnesota. A complaint was filed with the Department alleging that Cedar Crest Estate failed to properly supervise one of its residents. The Department investigated the matter and found that the resident, who has a high risk for elopement, was found by the State Patrol on a road about two miles from the facility. The resident was on his hands and knees on the shoulder of the road when the authorities found him. Cedar Crest Estate was supposed to check on the resident every thirty minutes due to his desire to elope. The MDH found that the facility’s staff had falsely documented that they had checked on the resident when, in fact, they did not: “The check sheet indicated the client was observed in the facility when the client was actually not present in the facility.” The MDH determined that the facility is responsible for neglect of the resident.
