The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has completed its investigation of neglect concerns at the West Wind Village, a nursing home in Morris, MN. A complaint was filed with the department alleging that a client was sent to the hospital with aspiration pneumonia after a nursing assistant and kitchen staff gave the resident a salad with cucumbers. The department investigated the matter and determined that neglect occurred when staff gave the resident food outside of her physician’s prescribed diet, which is to only consist of a soft mechanical diet. The resident had a history of swallowing difficulties and choking incidents. The MDH determined that the facility is responsible for neglect. [Case no. H5262015]
