The Minneapolis Star Tribune recently quoted Mark Kosieradzki in its follow up article regarding a 76-year-old man, Zheng Diao, who died after he was tasered in a local nursing home.
Zheng Diao was a patient at the Park Health and Rehab facility in St. Louis Park, MN. During his time at the facility, he had experienced some erratic behaviors and on July 14th, 2013, Zehng was wielding a knife and scissors when the St. Louis Park police department received a call for help. Zehng did not speak English, so the officers gestured for him to put down the knife and scissors. Zehng then moved the knife toward his throat and that is when the police used the taser on him in hopes to prevent him from harming himself, when he fell and seriously injured his face.
As Zehng was being treated for his injuries he died on July 29, 2013 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Mark has reviewed thousands of nursing home abuse and neglect cases and he has never seen anything like this case. The Park Health and Rehab facility is owned and operated by Extendicare.
