The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has substantiated a report that a vulnerable adult was physically abused by care staff at the Laura Baker facility in Northfield. [MDH Investigation Report No. HG500012]
The resident received psychotropic medications in order to control the behaviors. The offending staff member of the ICF/IID facility committed physical abuse by failing to adhere to the resident’s care plan regarding how best to control the resident’s physical aggression. The resident’s care plan included controlled procedures. The MDH found that the care staff failed to employ the designated control procedures. According to the MDH investigation report, the employee improperly confined the resident.
