Hopkins, Minnesota Golden LivingCenter Ignores Resident’s 40-Pound Weight Loss

By February 13, 2013 No Comments

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) completed an investigation of neglect concerns at the Golden LivingCenter in Hopkins, Minnesota.  A complaint was filed with the MDH alleging that facility staff failed to provide the resident with adequate care to meet his fluid and nutrition needs and failed to monitor his 30 pound weight loss over a two month period. The resident was at risk of dehydration and weight loss and lost nearly 40 pounds in less than two months. He was later hospitalized, his condition worsened, and he died at the hospital.

The MDH investigated the matter and found that the facility neglected the resident by failing to notify the resident’s physician or nurse practitioner of his significant weight loss and by failing to evaluate the data collected related to the resident’s weight and food and fluid intake.  The MDH determined that Golden LivingCenter – Hopkins was responsible for neglect of the resident due to “a breakdown in the facility systems.”  [Case no.
