Mynez Carter began to act differently about three months ago.
“She started acting defensively every time someone would try to touch her,” daughter Ruth Carter said to the Arlington Star-Telegram. “She would yell at you if you came toward her or look at you strangely.”
Mynez, an 83-year-old resident of Heritage Oaks Nursing Home in Arlington, Texas, just wasn’t her normal self. Her family took action and installed a secret “nanny cam” at the facility, which revealed the reason for her changed attitude.
The camera caught aides mistreating Mynez multiple times, including the following instances (as reported by the Star-Telegram):
- The aides pinched Mynez’ thigh multiple times for no reason
- The aides lifted her head roughly to put pillows beneath her
- The aides grabbed her arms and snapped them around while turning her in bed
Maria F. Acosta, one of the aides involved, was arrested last Friday and faces a charge of assaulting an elderly person, with bail set at $10,000.
