The Minnesota Department of Health has determined that the St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN, is responsible for neglect of a resident. A complaint was filed with the Department alleging that a resident was not reassessed for possible injuries after a fall although she complained of increased pain and increased difficulty with transfers. As a result, there was a delay in the resident being sent to the hospital for medical evaluation. The Department investigated the matter and found that the resident was neglected when she was not reassessed following a fall, and experienced pain throughout the day shift. On the evening shift, the resident was sent to the emergency room, and was diagnosed with a femur fracture. [Report H5407006, dated July 30, 2012]
