Prescription drug theft in Ohio nursing homes has become a big enough problem that Attorney General Mike DeWine is stepping in to put a stop to it.
The state has experienced multiple cases of overdose deaths after the theft and consumption of prescription drugs, and nursing homes are a common way for addicts to get their fix.
“In many cases employees steal prescription drugs to feed their own addictions and the addictions of loved ones or sell them on the streets,” according to a story by SFGate.
DeWine said he is sending out a letter to all care facilities in the state that reminds them of their obligations under law to report suspected illegal activity and lets them know of assistance available from the state to prosecute prescription drug theft.
