An 81-year-old woman under the care of Monroe County Care Center was thrown out of her wheelchair during a near-car crash and left unattended for a significant amount of time.
Kathy Schwaben, the woman’s supervisor at the time, left the elderly patient lying on the floor after she sustained several fractures while riding in a facility-sponsored van, according to NBC 4.
Schwaben did not perform a physical assessment of the ailing resident, and did not even correctly strap the resident in her seat at the beginning of the trip.
Instead of using the typical restraints necessary for a wheelchair, an unnamed employee used a “bungee cord” to strap the resident into her seat.
Schwaben was recently found guilty on one count of attempted patient neglect.
