Nursing home raided by police

By June 12, 2012 No Comments

There’s been a huge upsurge in crime in a typically sleepy South Pasadena neighborhood.

The culprit? South Pasadena Convalescent Hospital, a nursing home facility that has seen 65 recent instances of criminal behavior, disturbances, assaults, theft and burglaries, according to South Pasadena’s Chief of Police.

ABC 7 reports the hospital owners are under federal investigation, and police raided the home last week.

“A lot of us in here is mentally ill,” said Fernando Clifton, a resident at the home, “we are sick, diabetes, people have got HIV.”

Joe Payne, the Chief of Police, says the problem stems from the kind of residents the home allows.

“If they would no longer house individuals with criminal behavior, that would make a huge difference here,” he said.
