Financial Exploitation

Nurse steals resident’s identity

By June 5, 2012 No Comments

Thousands of dollars were stolen by a licensed nurse from the account of a 99-year-old resident at Champaign County Nursing Home in Illinois.

Sharese L. Brass, 41, used the elderly resident’s identity to pay her rent and cell phone bill, according to The News-Gazette. She allegedly stole a check from the reception desk at the home that the victim’s daughter had written to the home.

Brass then took the bank account number from the check to take out funds for her own use. When the victim’s daughter found that the account had been overdrawn, she alerted the police.

A nursing home employee is there to care for a resident, not to steal from him or her. Financial exploitation is illegal. If you have concerns about your own circumstances, contact the Kosieradzki Smith Law Firm online or call us toll free at (877) 552 2873 to set up a FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION.
