Extendicare leaves Kentucky after abuse charges

Six Kentucky nursing homes will soon be transferring ownership after Extendicare made the decision to discontinue its services in the state.

The action from the major nursing home chain comes after three nurse’s aides at Richmond Health and Rehabilitation pleaded guilty to abuse of an adult after being caught on a video camera abusing a resident in 2008.

The president of the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities wants to implement a new government measure to require every potential lawsuit against a nursing home to be reviewed by a panel of medical professionals.

This could possibly discourage lawyers from taking nursing home cases in the state of Kentucky and delay the justice process.
