When Donald Reeder, 83, passed away at a nursing home in Madison, Tenn. on December 24, his wife was told that he “had an accident.”
According to a new story from Nashville News Channel 5, this was not actually the case.
New information states that Reeder did not suffer an accident, but was brutally murdered by his roommate, resident Orville Hayes, who used his cane as a weapon. Reeder held onto life for a few days, but passed away in early January.
Both men involved suffered from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and Hayes passed away in February, rendering any legal action against him useless.
A new 68-page report from the Tennessee State Health Department indicates that the Madison facility attempted to cover up evidence of what happened to Reeder. The report includes other violations as well, including a too-small staff and multiple patients’ healthcare needs not being met.
