The Ten Most Common Nursing Home Violations

Earlier this month, The Detroit Free Press listed the 10 most common nursing violations in the state of Michigan. The following information comes directly from the newspaper’s online report.

63% did not make sure that they were free of dangers that cause accidents.
49% did not have a program to keep infection from spreading.
46% did not give services to residents that met a professional standard of quality.
42% did not give each resident care and services to get or keep the highest quality of life possible.
40% did not store, cook and give out food in a safe and clean way.
37% did not properly mark drugs and other similar products.
35% did not make sure that residents were not given too many doses of drugs for too long and did not carefully watch or stop or change drugs that cause unwanted effects.
28% did not provide needed housekeeping and maintenance.
28% did not provide care in a way that keeps or builds each resident’s dignity or self respect.
25% did not hire only people who have no legal history of abusing, neglecting or mistreating residents; or report and investigate any acts or reports of abuse, neglect or mistreatment of residents.
