The Minnesota Department of Health recently investigated allegations of sexual abuse at the Augustana Healthcare Center of Minneapolis. The MDH reported that a male staff member fondled the resident’s penis and stated “you have a big one.” The victim told the MDH investigator that the employee played with the victim’s penis at least 10 times over approximately 3 months. The male employee, according to the MDH, gave inconsistent accounts of the events.
Sexual abuse of vulnerable residents in care facilities is intolerable. Responsible employers hire responsible employees.
