Three residents at a central Minnesota nursing home suffered burns between March 13 and April 11, due to the repeatedly neglect by a single nurse. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that the affected patients were given an endangering mix of Biofreeze and hot packs, resulting in burns that ranged from reddened skin to second-degree.
The nursing home had no protocol for the use of Biofreeze and hot packs being used together, and the nurse was retrained after the incidents, but, “there [was] not evidence that her use of Biofreeze and the hot packs was monitored after the first possible burn.” Read the full Star Tribune here.
