A nursing home worker at Crystal Pines Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Crystal Lake, IL faces felony sex abuse charges following allegations from a 93-year-old patient. The Northwest Herald reports that the 22-year-old nurse’s aide was arrested recently following allegations that he digitally penetrated the female resident in late September.
The nursing home claims to follow the Department of Public Health’s hiring regulations and that at the time of hiring the alleged abuser had nothing that made him inelligable to work at the home. Yet, as the Northwest Herald reports, this isn’t the first incident that Crystal Pines has had. In August 2011 they were shown to “fail to protect residents from mistreatment, neglect, and/or theft of personal property” by the Department of Health and Human Services. Furthermore, in 2009 the nursing home was found to have violated hiring regulations by failing to “hire only people who have no legal history of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating residents; or report and investigate any acts or reports of abuse, neglect, or mistreatment of residents.”
