Augustana Nursing Home Cited For Neglecting Fall Victim

Augustana Health Care in Hastings has been cited by the state for neglecting an injured resident.  The Minnesota Department of Health determined on May 20, 2011, that the Augustana nursing home neglected its resident after he had fallen and hit his head.  Four hours after the man fell, his condition significantly deteriorated. The Department of Health concluded that the nursing home did not provide the injured resident with proper, vigilant attention following his head trauma.  He died two days later due to a “massive intracranial hemorrhage,” according to the state’s investigation report.

The Kosieradzki Smith Law Firm has extensive experience helping residents and their families involved with traumatic injuries caused by nursing homes who fail to do their job.  Residents who suffer head trauma require vigilant assessment, monitoring and treatment to make sure that their injuries are not worse than they may first appear.  To meet this need, nursing homes must have sufficient numbers of competent nurses and care staff on duty.
