1 in 7 Patients Experience Treatment Mistakes

CNN reports that a new study by the Department of Health and Human Services has revealed that 1 in 7 hospitalized Medicare patients is harmed by a treatment mistake.  Three common sources of error, the study shows, are excessive bleeding after surgery, urinary tract infections from mismanaged catheters, and medication errors  The report also says that errors like these may cause 180,000 deaths per year.  Three tips the report gives for avoiding treatment errors are for patients to bring someone they know with them to the hospital, knowing their medications and dosages, and being cautious about receiving a catheter.
