USA Today reports that a former nurse’s aid from the Madison Manor nursing home plead guilty to the charge of wanton abuse and neglect of an adult. The aid reportedly neglected to feed a resident of the Richmond, Kentucky nursing home. The court originally sentenced her to one year in prison, but after her guilty plea diverted the jail time for five years, provided that she stays out of trouble and doesn’t work with vulnerable adults or children in addition performing 100 hours of community service. The Madison Manor nursing home is owned by the large, international health care corporation, Extendicare. The Extendicare corporation owns 258 nursing homes across the United States and Canada. Their facilities have been repeatedly found to provide deficient, dangerous patient care.
