Nursing Home Resident Dies from Traumatic Brain Injury

The Lakeland Ledger reported on July 22, 2010 that a jury awarded $114 million in a lawsuit alleging the wrongful death of 76-year-old resident of the Integrated Health Services nursing home in Florida.  The law suit alleges that the resident suffered a traumatic brain injury and several fractures after falling down two weeks after she had been admitted to the nursing home.  The law suit also alleged that the nursing home’s negligence caused her to develop pressure sores and to become dehydrated and malnourished.  The jury awarded $14 million in compensatory damages and $100 million in punitive damages against the nursing home.
