Nursing home faces sanctions after maggots found in resident’s bandaged wound

A Maine nursing home’s failure to install proper windows and screens led to an infestation of flies which led to maggots being found living in a resident’s wounds, according to WGME 13 News. Medical superbugs: Antibiotic-resistant bacteria carried by more than a third of nursing home residents, study

Over-administering and overuse of antibiotics in nursing homes has led to the presence of superbugs, or antibiotic-resistant bacteria, in more than one third of nursing home residents in Australia, according to an ABC News report. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has completed its investigation of neglect concerns at the Faribault Care Center, a nursing home in Faribault, Minnesota.  A complaint was filed with the MDH alleging that neglect of care had caused a resident to develop cellulitis. The MDH also investigated additional complaints alleging that residents were not receiving requisite assistance with eating, dressing, and grooming and that the bathrooms were not clean. Hepatitis C Outbreak for ManorCare Nursing Home Residents

According to a News Release issued by the North Dakota Department of Health, government health officials are investigating an outbreak of hepatitis C that has occurred in Ward County. Hillcrest Terrace of Chisholm Leaves Resident in Filth, Neglect Requires Hospitalization

On March 13, 2013, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) substantiated a report of neglect on the part of Hillcrest Terrace of Chisholm.  [MDH Investigation Report #HL20199033] The resident is developmentally disabled with dementia and psychotic episodes.
